Florida Marine Transporters Inc. of Mandeville, Louisiana has taken delivery of the
first of eight (8) boats to be built to John Gilbert Associate's design. The M/V John Grimsley
measures 140’ x 42’ x 11’-6”. The first four vessels are powered by 2 EMD 12-710 GC
engines rated 3,000 horsepower @ 900 RPM for 6,000 horsepower total coupled
with Twin Disc MGN-5023Z reduction gears. Hulls 5 thru 8 are rated 2480 horsepower
@ 1,000 RPM coupled to Lufkin RS-2200 reduction gears. The vessels also have Harrington
Marine type 37 nozzles, 2 x Cummins 6 CTA 8.3 – D (M) 175 kW Generators and an EMI
Hydraulic Steering System. The M/V John Grimsley was constructed at Horizon Shipbuilding in Bayou La Batre, AL.
Eastern Fisheries of New Bedford, Massachusetts has taken delivery of the 13th
John W. Gilbert Associates designed Scallop Boat the F/V Acturus. The vessel was
built at Duckworth Steel Boat in Tarpon Springs, Florida and is 88’-4" LWL, with
1,000 horsepower engine allowing her to tow two 14’-0” dredges. This particular hull design
was built with a bulbous bow to achieve enhanced fuel economy.
