M/V Raymond C. Pecor Jr. The Lake Champlain Ferry Transportation has taken delivery of the M/V Raymond C. Pecor Jr. The Pecor is a 216 Ft. L.O.A. SubChapter (K) Double Ended Passenger Vehicle Ferry. She is powered by Caterpillar 3508 rated 1,000 Horsepower @1600 RPM. She is capable of carrying a mixed freight loading of 6 trucks and 46 automobiles. She will service the Grand Isle to Plattsburgh run.

Miller Boat Lines took delivery of the lengthened M/V “Put-In-Bay”. The 40’ midbody was fabricated at Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to the midbody, the “Put-In-Bay” was repowered with new diesels and her rudders were replaced with articulating rudders by Deflector Marine. Overall performance of the lengthened vessel exceeded expectations. The vessel carries 98% more vehicles and her speed increased by two knots. The Owners have been running the vessel at her normal scheduled speed resulting in considerable savings in fuel and reduced engine wear.

Florida Marine Transporters of Mandeville, Louisiana has taken delivery of the second and third Tow Boats built to JWGA’s design D-344. The Dennis Pasentine and the Rusty Zeller are powered the same as the first vessel, the M/V John Grimsley.

M/V John Grimsley All three vessels measure 140’ x 42’ x 11’-6”. The vessels are powered by 2 EMD 12-710 GC engines rated 3,000 horsepower @900 RPM coupled to Twin Disc MGN-5023Z reduction gears. Hulls 5 thru 7 are powered with CAT C-280-6 rated 2480 H.P. @ 1,000 RPM coupled to Lufkin RS-2200 reduction gears. The vessels also have Harrington Marine type 37 nozzles, 2 x Cummins 6 CTA 8.3 – D (M) 175 kW Generators and an EMI Hydraulic Steering system. The boats were constructed at Horizon Shipbuilding in Bayou La Batre, LA.


In October, Florida Marine took the first 120ft. Tow Boat built to JWGA design D-345 Capt. W.D. Nunley for her sea trial with a final delivery expected soon thereafter. The Capt. W.D. Nunley is one of 4 tow boats being built of this class. She measures 120-' x 35’ x 11’-6” and is powered by 2 Caterpillar 3512’s rated 1910 horsepower @1600 RPM for a total of 3820 horsepower. Gear boxes are Twin Disc MGX 5600, 6.56:1. Generator power is provided by 2 Caterpillar C 6.6, rated 150kw. These vessels are also being constructed at Horizon Shipbuilding in Bayou La Batre.
